CARING LESS AND LESS

Sep 25, 2024

There is a funny thing that happens once you step into the spirit-led life. You start to care less.

You care less what other people think. Their opinions are data points helping you to see your own unique opinions, but they aren’t something you fret about.

You care less about how you look. You don’t lose a desire to look sharp, but you don’t worry as much over whether you fit in. Instead, you start paying attention to how you feel.

You care less about what other people are doing. Instead, you are fully invested in your own priorities and your own projects, loving life.

You care less about things people worry about. You see worries as a complete waste of good energy, when you could be using your energy to daydream or say what you want.

You care less about getting ahead in your paying job. Instead, you have a list of your own projects and priorities that get top billing in your life.

You care less whether people dislike you. In fact, you develop this sense of humor around people who avoid you or seem to be annoyed by you, where you smile at them and annoy them all the more.

You care less about what is happening tomorrow; you care instead about what’s happening today. You stay in today and seek to have the best day possible, given where you are.

You care less about what people say is impossible. Instead, you privately dream up scenarios of peace in the world, second homes, and everyone alive learning to love themselves.

You care less about what you did in the past. You harvest the lessons of the past, love yourself, and then firmly close the door to the past as it has no relevance on the future you are creating.

You care less about people who are acting out of alignment. You see bad actors as people who are miserable on the inside and you send them love, even as you steer clear of them and their unwanted behaviors.

You care less if you are meeting society’s standards of a good person. Instead, you know yourself as good and worthy to the core of your being and see every other human as the same.

You care less about saying no to people. In fact, you only say yes when it’s a hell yes and you are excited to move forward. You see ennui as the byproduct of a stifled want and excavate your wants with fervor.

You care less if you fail, make a mistake, or totally flub something. Instead, you reframe every misstep into a story of your total success and you laugh the whole time you do it.

You care less if others listen to you. You listen to you and you value your opinion more than any other person.

You care less what others tell you about the divine. You have your own rubric and it works for you, and you use it to access higher states of vibration that are life sustaining.

You care less whether you reach all your goals. You see goals as a way to know yourself and abandon goals that are no longer fun to you. You adopt a new mantra: easy is for me.

You care less about people in your life needing to be happy for you to be happy. Instead, you see them as perfect as they are and make your happiness dependent on nothing.

You care less what society thinks on any topic; instead, you take a keen interest in what you think and seek to improve your thinking to improve your life.

Caring less is not what I expected when I embarked on my spiritual journey, but it’s where I landed. Here is how I see it. Once I showed up to do the work to love myself, I have excess love for others. And precious little patience for ideas that hold me back. The idea that those of us who are spiritual are pushovers who give away their hearts to others completely misses the mark. You can’t give away something you don’t have and as best I can tell, my heart belongs to my soul.

She’s the keeper of my wants and desires. She’s the tender of my hopes and dreams. She’s the one who seems poised to stand tall and start telling others that the spirit-led life looks different than many of us assume.

Where are you avoiding your spiritual side because you have made assumptions around what a spirit-led life looks life? Where are you stifling your own soul because you think your work is to give yourself away to others? Where do you have an opportunity to reclaim your spirit and start living life from the inside out?
