RULES TO LIVE BY

Jul 10, 2024

What if God rebranded as the Universe just to attract a whole new set of followers? What if the Universe is far more interested in us than the law of attraction makes it sound? What if we are all test subjects in some grand experiment to see who can race to the end first and discover what’s the truth?

I am enjoying my life. Loving it, in fact. I am so in love with this life that I don’t want it to end. I want to keep going and going and I want to see each year better than the last.

But I have to admit, there is a part of death that intrigues me. And it’s the part that I call the big reveal.

All of our questions answered. All of our speculation resolves. All of our ideas around what it means to be spiritual sorted out, decided, and clear. At least, that’s the promise.

Because I am in no hurry to end this life, I decided that I had to come up with a few ground rules as I waited out my time until I get all my questions answered. And this is what I came up with.

  • Be nice. Not because there is a rule that you must always be nice, but because you feel better when you are nice to people. Plus it makes them feel good too.
  • Take chances. If you have an idea for a flower garden, plant a flower garden. If you have an idea for a conference for women who are all like you, go for it. If you have a desire to stay home more, cozy up. Do whatever you want and let that be the risk you take.
  • Strive only for one thing: your own good opinion. Fret not the opinion of any other person. And when you do worry what another thinks, know that the problem is with you not them.
  • When in doubt, choose love. Not because you have to, but because when you aren’t sure which direction to head, head toward the action or situation that feels more loving. Even if you achieve a marginal improvement, that’s a win.
  • Eat whatever you want. The food police cannot reach agreement on what we should be eating, so check in with your body and eat what makes you feel good.
  • Move your body. This is not meant to shame people into exercise. This is meant to say that a little movement every day helps keep your energy clear.
  • Shout if you feel like shouting. Whisper if you feel like whispering. Express in whatever way feels good to you and care not what anyone else thinks.
  • See your worst moments as caveats. Meaning, watch out for thinking that drags you down, keeps you down, and makes you down. Seek out ideas that perk you up.
  • Tune into the channel that you want to live by. I personally prefer love but see a lot of people tuned into fear. Choose at your own risk.
  • Create home spaces you love. It need not be fancy, but make it your own.
  • Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. If you are ever asked to place a bet, bet on you every day, all day. And you will always win.
  • Listen to yourself talk. What you say to others is massively revealing as to how you think. Take interest in your mind as if it is one of you best assets. Because it is.
  • Care not about your appearance IF you are tuned to others’ opinions of you. Care about your appearance if it pleases you.
  • Write your own rules. Just as I have done here. Make up your own set of rules to live by. And then violate them as a way of saying that a perpetually evolving being won’t be hemmed in by rules.

These are my rules to live by. What are yours?
